Marie Wilhelmine Anders‘ neues, genreübergreifendes Konzeptalbum „Frozen Music“ schließt an ihre Alben „Travels“ (Broque) und „She’s Leaving“ (Noisy Meditation) an. Als fünftes Album, das sich auf die Lyrik von Robert Louis Stevenson bezieht, wagt „Frozen Music“ in weiten Teilen eine Annäherung an die Geschichte von Drum & Bass: Sunchase (der „Frozen Music“ grossartig gemastert hat), dBridge, Calibre, Krust, Goldie (Mother!), Optical, T.Power, LTJ Bukem, Banaczech, sind nur einige ihrer wichtigsten Inspirationsquellen. Auf der Suche nach den verbindenden Elementen zwischen der Gedichtvorlage aus dem späten 19. Jahrhundert und der Zeit, in der Drum & Bass 100 Jahre später entstand, fand sie den Klang des Nebelhorns, das im Geburtsjahr von Stevenson erfunden wurde. Das Nebelhorn wurde erstmals in den 1950er Jahren in jamaikanische Soundsysteme eingebaut. Sein Sound erzeugte dort eine unerwartete Wucht im Bassbereich und hielt von dort aus Einzug in die Raves und DnB-Produktionen der Kinder der „Windrush“-Generation in Großbritannien. Als zweites Verbindungselement fand Marie die Musik von Claude Debussy: Seine „flüssigen Werke“ (David Toop) – beeinflusst von der Musik Javas, Kambodschas, Vietnams, Japans – beeinflussten wiederum die spätere Generation der Ambient Music Produzenten. Die Akkordfolgen aus seinem „Prelude“ aus „Pour Le Piano“ tauchen in gedehnter und gefilterter Form in Maries Ambient-Intro-Track „Prelude“ und an einigen anderen Stellen in „Frozen Music“ wieder auf. Die neun Tracks von „Frozen Music“ finden ihre ganz eigene Form in der atmosphärischen Nachempfindung der Bildsprache von Stevensons Gedicht „Evensong“ und in ihrer Beziehung zu einigen der faszinierendsten Genres der elektronischen Musik. Als klassisch ausgebildete Komponistin stellt Marie Ambient, Breaks, DnB und Techno wie selbstverständlich nebeneinander. Sie nähert sie sich den Grenzen der Genres mit einer Art Unschuld, immer die Verbindungen zwischen den verschiedenen Stilen hörend. In „Frozen Music“ greift sie diese Verbindungen auf. Das funktioniert so gut, weil sich die musikalischen Formen oft nicht an das halten, was man als traditionelle Struktur bezeichnen würde. Dynamik, Form, Sounddesign und nicht zuletzt der Mix ihrer Musik sind umso sorgfältiger aufeinander abgestimmt und ergeben eine eingängige Dramaturgie, mit der das Album sowohl als Gesamtkunstwerk als auch als zeitgemässes und originelles Update des Drum & Bass-Sounds der 90er für sich steht.
